サラ・バードについて
サラ・バードは、アメリカの超越主義運動の発祥地であるマサチューセッツ州コンコードで育ち、幼い頃から風景画や芸術に魅了されていました。ブラウン大学に入学した後、ニューヨーク市のグランド・セントラル・アトリエで 4 年間過ごし、ジェイコブ・コリンズなどの現代の写実主義画家に師事しました。風景画家を目指していましたが、ニューヨークにいる間に学校の人物中心のカリキュラムから離れ、静物画というより親密で自己決定的な風景画に専念しました。静物画は、彼女が今でも魅了されている詩的なジャンルです。現在の作品は、布の上に自然物を祭壇風にアレンジした伝統的な作品と、暗い背景に植物、葉、枝をワイルドに描いた「葉の絵画」の 2 つの形式をとることが多く、バードはこれを風景画と静物画のジャンルを超えたものだと考えています。
About Sarah Bird
Sarah Bird grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, the home of the American Transcendentalist movement, where she developed an early love for landscape and art. She attended Brown University before spending four years at the Grand Central Atelier in New York City to study with contemporary realist painters like Jacob Collins. Though she set out to become a landscape painter, while in New York she departed from the school's figure-centric curriculum to devote herself to the more intimate, self-determined landscapes of still life, the poetic genre that remains her fascination. Her current work often takes two forms: traditional, altar-esque arrangements of natural objects on cloth; and "foliage paintings", wilder compositions of plants, leaves, and branches on a dark background, which she sees as cross-genre between landscape and still life.
